NRO – Nation Ruining Ordinance

The hero of "in the line of fire" has decided to put the nation "in the line of desire" now.

Some people say that NRO was planned when special NAB cell against Benazir Bhutto was closed. However, some people also think that NRO was on the table when Zardari enjoyed the escape from jail through the government's back-door.

President Musharaf lavishly spent billions of rupees to prove Miss Bhutto to be the most corrupt PM of Pakistan's history. And now he has, suddenly, converted the queen of tyranny to the dove of democracy. The only visible merit of NRO is to save Musharaf's seat and allow him to remain in power for next five years. Since the looted money belongs to the nation and not to Musharaf himself therefore he should return our money from his personal resources if Ms Bhutto is not going to be held for it. Otherwise he has no right to be generous to the historical criminals for his personal deeds. Our nation is currently exposed to a historic woe of inflation, insecurity, chaos, unemployment and frustration. We have learnt from a recent survey that above 40% of our nation is living below the poverty line. While most of the remaining are hardly able to make both ends meat. Such a poor nation shouldn't be punished with ordinance like NRO which is just to profit the politicians. Even Swiss court has denied closing money laundry cases of over twelve million US dollars against Ms Bhutto. This looted money must be returned and spent on the nation itself.

A school of thought say that Musharaf has nailed many giants in his tenure and now the only guarantee of his safety is the chance to remain in power and ability to use maximum government resources to secure himself. This NRO is a black spot on Musharaf tenure because it openly shows his close connection and sympathy for the looters-mafia. Also he doesn't enjoy much support from his backup party – PML-Q since they are the worse rival of PPP. On one side PML-Q and PPP don't hesitate to play foul in the blame game and on the other side Musharaf is whistling to gather them in the same government. Does the reconciliation is all about closing corruption cases or it also means for the politicians to unite to fight the national problems together? We have not seen any changes in the attitudes of politicians yet they are offered the safe heaven under the NRO umbrella. General Musharraf's claims not to have any corruption cases on him are rejected by critics. Because the controversial tool of NAB is always used by the government in power to teach a lesson to the previous government. So once Musharraf's power-line ends NAB might pull out few if not many cases against him too.

The dilemma of our nation is that a few brains of instable states of mind have been bamboozling us for the last sixty years. It is the right time for the nation to wake up before they steal our dreams. It is the right time to elect the sincere nabobs now. It is the right time to think!
