Haroon Reloaded
Hi
Long time no post :) lazy blogger. Anyway, finally I have stopped taking freelance tasks that I used to take after my permanent job's working hours. Now I am utilizing my time at night mostly to refresh my skills in the technologies I had worked long ago and never got chance to get back to them and had forgotten them almost.
First on the list is ASP. I had made a MSN kind of messenger with the help of ASP many years ago when I was a student. At that time even MSN itself didn't have web messenger. But I was not good enough to realize that and cash my invention :) Later due to my tough computer science studies I left working in ASP and joined PHP when I came back to the web world. I covered ASP classic, not ASP.Net, in just three days again and now planning a good project in it to clean my hands.
XQuery and XPath are two other technologies I had worked long ago and then had forgotten them almost. I have started working on a very cool XML based web application. If I get time to continue this project trust me it could be THE NEXT BIG THING! and GOOGLE might want to buy it for a few billions too ... Dreamin....
Besides I have started working in Java too. NetBeans on my laptop is a nice addition to many other softwares. I really want to go beyond limits in Java and my ultimate goal would be to work in J2EE and SAP solutions. But long way to go now...
I also tested my designing skills again to make sure my programming has not overshadowed my hidden designer. Photoshop CS2 is on my list too.
Another small thing I learned but never got a chance to make quickly was Mozilla XUL. Nice technology but I think it is not a good idea to work in a BROWSE SPECIFIC technology since this doesn't work with other browsers and works with Mozilla / Firefox only
I am also launching a big software that I had written in PHP-Smarty long ago but it went dead because I was making good bucks from freelance work and was not interested in improving this project. It is a very good solution for Universities. It is online testing system based on MCQs type with lots of good features. I will soon launch it and will update you guys.
So lots of new things improving my skills and taking their place in my portfolio and skills-set.
What I have noticed in my professional life is that you can expert a technology if you are working in it and you continue getting work in it. This has been a problem with me, I learned many things but I didn't get PAID WORK in it and you know this is the interest of a professional after all I have to make both ends meat. So I forgot those technologies which hadn't brought money to me :)
I am trying to recover most of them now but I will miss one thing always..... C sisters... I regret why did I leave working in C, C++ and Visual C 6. I must have continued working in them because the .NET is all about C# nowadays.
Anyway, whatever happens, happens for a reason so I am happy and satisfied. I worked in web development and I made good bucks and a bright future is waiting for me. I am just 25 guys ... :D
